Moodle Masterclass

The Moodle Masterclass is FULL

Unfortunately, the Moodle Masterclass has now reached its capacity.
We apologise to all those who missed out, but feel free to check out which Wednesday Workshops are available!

What is the Masterclass anyway?

The Moodle Masterclass will serve as the intersection of these two experts in their field, and will provide a dynamic, entertaining and hands on environment in which participants will get to hear the theory, brainstorm ideas and working in groups put these ideas into practice in a live Moodle course. All groups will be given access to a range of resources on a top secret but widely understood topic, and as the educational design ideas flow from Curtis and are translated into Moodle possibilities by Julian, participants will structure a Moodle course for their group that makes the most of the content on offer.

Throughout the workshop a range of experienced Moodle trainers will be on hand to offer step-by-step guidance on putting ideas into practice and coaching participants through their course design experience. After the workshop, the courses will be made available to delegates at the Moodlemoot, and after that they will be made available to the broader Moodle community as exemplars of what can be done with Moodle.

Who this workshop is (and isn't) for

This workshop is for educators but not for those who have never used Moodle! It will be assumed that all participants have the basics of setting up a course in Moodle - for those who do not have this expertise there are a range of half-day workshops available that will get you going on your Moodle journey. This full day workshop is for those who want to take their Moodle course development to the next level, and end up viewing online learning delivery in a completely new light.

So what do I need then?

You will need to bring:
  1. Your brain, which contains at least the basics of creating a Moodle course, and ideally some hands-on experience in having done so, even if at a basic level; and
  2. Your laptop, if you have one, to connect to the wireless network and to use to construct your group's Moodle course on the day.

What? I need a laptop? But I don't have one/I'm not bringing it/mine is broken/the dog ate it!

Ok, don't panic. We are not providing laptops for several reasons, but the main one is that this day will not require all participants to be working on their Moodle course for the whole day. While a laptop would be handy, you could still attend this workshop without one and walk away with more ideas than you know what to do with. If you do bring your laptop (and by all means if you have one then bring it), technical staff from the venue will be on hand to help you get your laptop connected to the wireless network on the day, you'll get a free electrical test of the safety of your unit (a requirement of the venue before anything is plugged in) and you'll be provided with a login to a Moodle instance in which you can work collaboratively.

Ok, I'm sold - when it is and how much am I up for?

The Masterclass will be held on the Sunday preceeding the Moot, the 11th July, from 9:00am to 4:30pm, and will cost $240 for Moodlemoot delegates or $320 for non-delegates. Morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch will be provided on the day.

Do I need to be going to the conference to attend the Masterclass?

No. If you'd prefer to just attend the Masterclass then that's fine, although you will get a discount for attending both the Moodlemoot and the Masterclass.

Anything else I should know?

Yes - places are strictly limited due to the venue size, so get in early or risk missing out on this unique event where online learning pedagogy and the full functional capability of Moodle will meet head to head. The option to attend this event will be on the Moodlemoot registration form when registrations open on Friday 12th of March.
